I cannot praise this book by Dr.MacDonald enough. It has greatly helped my understanding of late-talking children. I learned how 80% of conversation with late-talking children is dominated by questions and commands from adults while only 50% of typical talkers have this format. It is very hard to learn communication from these series of questions and children naturally do not enjoy the constant questioning (just as adults are turned off from barrages of questions). Dr.MacDonald clearly walks through the idea of balanced communication in which children succeed through turn-taking. He has taken such a burden off parents and professionals' shoulders who stressed themselves out about picking the right questions and topics to discuss. Instead, we can match the interests of these late-talking children and guide them to build a little bit with every interaction. I recommend this to every parent, but especially to those who are worried about late-talking children.
